27. AWARENESS

Allow the sun of awareness to shine on the situation at hand. Allow everything to be as it is. It is about being here, with what is here. It is about noticing without judging or evaluating. This is why mindfulness is more a discipline of the heart, because the mind tends to judge, whereas the heart is free of that. This is why all beings love to receive awareness, to be seen without being judged. 

In awareness we use the senses to perceive the content of the here and now. Awareness is like a magic wand, whatever you point it at comes to life. Awareness is an exercise in directing this intelligent listening and allowing the world to gradually become more alive. 

The opposite of awareness is distraction. We live in a distracted society. If you want to integrate more awareness into your life, it means consuming less distraction. Awareness makes you happy. A study of happiness found that it’s not so much what you do as how present you are when you do it.
