The Caregiver archetype is compassionate, nurturing and supportive. They want to help others, protect them from harm or provide comfort. This archetype is selfless and self-sacrificing. But that doesn’t mean you should underestimate this archetype.
This role is not just a well-behaved, gentle saint who fades into the background. He can be a source of hope as well as conflict. He can be belligerent and stubborn as well as gentle and wise. The grumpy, sarcastic, mustard-stained lawyer working pro bono to stop an eviction is as much a caregiver as Mother Theresa.
The caregiver’s weakness is self-sacrifice. In the midst of taking care of others, they forget to take care of themselves. The ideal caregiver takes care of herself as well as she takes care of others.
