55. ALIEN

They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.”

(John 17:13-16)

The Alien perceives the world from a completely external point of view, he perceives things as he encounters them because he has not yet formed an opinion about them. It is a perspective similar to seeing the world for the first time. He does not know its names or its purpose. He sees the world phenomenologically. For him, a river is a mass of glittering liquid that sluggishly pushes its way through time, and in the seagulls circling overhead he recognizes nameless winged creatures that seem to follow an invisible, living mechanism.

The word ‘alien’ comes from the Latin ‘alienus’, meaning ‘strange’. In the game, it takes on a completely alien perspective and can exhibit highly bizarre characteristics. At the same time, the alien is attracted to the world, but cannot be a natural part of it. It is too in love with the world to want to return home completely, and yet it remains only a visitor in it.
